What shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him that loves us. For I am persuaded that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creation, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus, our Lord.”
Romans 8: 35 – 39

I promise this will be the last Jelly Roll cut I will offer for a while: “God Didn’t Let Me Break”.

Reassuring and uplifting, the lyrics are another reminder of the closeness of God even when we
don’t feel his presence. Maybe we should be listening closer to His message, however subtle and however unexpected the vehicle.

If ye love me, keep my commandments. And I will pray to the Father and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you forever; Even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. I will not leave you comfortless; I will come to you.
John 14:15-18

After a number of positive responses on my Jelly Roll offering a couple of weeks ago, I present another:  “Jesus Is Coming Soon”.

As is the common theme in JR’s works, this music and lyrics seem to give one a sense of belonging and the promise of glory.

Jelly Roll’s history seems inconsequential when considering where he is today with his faith and gratitude for the wonderful gift we have received (in many cases without deserving Him!)…a loving, forgiving, Savior.

In like manner, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject to one another, and be clothed with humility; for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble.
1 Peter 5:5

The Blessing Box…who knew?

It has been heartwarming to see the outpouring of love and generosity displayed by many anonymous donors through their contributions to the The Blessing Box.

Grace Memorial’s willingness to help those who are not as fortunate as us has become a beacon to the community of the many who have contributed…without recognition or pomp…just because of their awareness of the need they hope to fill.

The Blessing Box inspired me to repeat the following offering of “Less Like Me” written and
recorded by Zach Williams. The music depicts the battle many of us have to be “…more like Jesus”.

Hear my cry, O God; attend unto my prayer. From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed; lead me to the rock this is higher than I. For thou hast been a shelter for me, and a strong tower from the enemy.
Psalm 61:1-3

Jelly Roll is a unique and to some degree a polarizing figure in today’s Christian music world. His
early years were lawless to say the least, with considerable jail time. But the story has a happy ending with his complete transition to a committed Christian. He conquered his alcohol abuse, now has a young family, and travels the world sharing his story, never forgetting to whom the glory belongs.

With Jelly Roll’s gifts of a great voice and simple lyrics, truly we should be inspired by the
unfathomable redemptive powers of our Lord and Savior, even if we disapprove of JR’s early
transgressions. The music offered is one of at least a dozen recent Jelly Roll recordings that are soulful, heartfelt, and can readily bring tears to one’s eyes when considering the depth of pain from which he has been freed.

"Messiah" Composed by George Frederic Handel (1685-1759)

During Advent, 2024, selections from the “Messiah” were offered in “Grace Notes”.  During this current season of Lent, 2026, I have selected the rest of the “Messiah” which focuses on the life, crucifixion, and resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  The advent portion is again shown below if the listener elects to experience the complete work of Handel.
Handel’s “Messiah” is universally acknowledged as one of the finest musical pieces ever composed.  The work was accomplished by Handel with assistance from Charles Jenners (an 18th century lyricist).  The combination of a strong Christian theme, four part voice harmonies and solos, orchestral compositions (running the gamut of strings, percussion, and horns), and at times a unique and majestic harmonious blend of voice, instrument, and verse, “Messiah” is indeed worth listening to and reflecting on over many “takes”.
If ever one could conclude that “Divine Inspiration” exists, this work offers convincing evidence:
Handel commenced the “Messiah” on August 22, 1741, in response to a competition for a new work of music to be performed in Dublin on Easter, 1742.  The work was somehow completed by Handel on September 14, 1741…a miraculous feat accomplished in twenty-three days!
The Dublin audience was understandably in awe of the superb music.  The Dublin debut was followed over the next few years by concerts in London and throughout Europe.  Over the centuries a number of changes to the work have been made; however, the basic composition has stood the test of time.
The seven (7) YouTube videos highlighted below represent a portion of “Part I” which concentrates on the birth of Jesus.  Each Advent season, our youth would be “exposed” to this classic which might be alternately labeled as the “First Christian Praise Music” composition!

“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled. Blessed are the merciful, for they will receive mercy. Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God. Blessed are those who are persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when people revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you."
Matthew 5:3-12

In the midst of so many disturbing global events that seem to dominate both the national media and social media, it seems the only viable (and indisputably the superior) tool available to us as Christians is to focus on what we can control within our own community through love, mercy, generosity that is passed on from Jesus Christ to all of those that we encounter.

This cut was written by Mac Powell and performed by Third Day soon after the series of devastating floods, earthquakes, and civil disorder in Haiti. The petition then seems appropriate to us now.

Cut: “Arise”
Artist: Third Day
CD/Album: Lead Us Back

I sit alone and think about the world and all the people without freedom, without justice.
And then I wonder if there's any more that I can do to help the broken, to help the hopeless.
And, Lord, You know I can't do this without You…
God, I need You now, help me to make a move

Arise, o God…Lift up Your hand. Bring freedom and forgiveness
Arise, o God…Help us to stand, For mercy and for justice.

As I sing along with all the worship and the praises of Your children, of Your people.
I know that there is so much more that we can all be doing for the broken, for the hopeless.
Lord, You know we can't do this without You.
God, we need You now, help us to make a move…Help us to make a move.

Arise, o God…Lift up Your hand. Bring freedom and forgiveness
Arise, o God…Help us to stand, For mercy and for justice.
Arise, o God…Lift up Your hand. Bring freedom and forgiveness
Arise, o God…Help us to stand, For mercy and for justice.

Only You can save us, Lord, Only You can rescue us
In the name of Jesus, there is hope...
Only You can save us, Lord, Only You can rescue us
In the name of Jesus, there is hope...

"In like manner, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder.  Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility; for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble.” ~Peter 1 5:5
If you were fortunate enough to hear Mtr. Liz’s homily this past Sunday, our Savior’s parable of the Pharisee v the Tax Collector, shed light on the call to humble oneself.  Humility is indeed the theme of “Less Like Me” by Zach Williams.
Zack was born in 1978 and has been a popular Christian music artist since 2007, living in Jonesboro, Arkansas. He writes the majority of his music, which features his raspy baritone voice and country/acoustic style.  He has won 5 Grammy and GMA Dove awards, including the 2021 Grammy for “There Was Jesus” (the Dolly Parton duet).

If any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God; if any man minister, let him do it as of the ability which God giveth, that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be praise and dominion forever and ever. Amen. -1 Peter 4:11
We again re-visit another female voice: Brooke Ligertwood (f. lead singer for Hillsong Worship).
“What A Beautiful Name” must have unusual appeal as it has currently been viewed 621 million times on YouTube. The video was recorded in front of 5,000+ worshipers in Sydney, Australia in 2016. Hillsong Worship formed in 1983 at Hillsong Church (Australia). They have placed twelve (12)
albums on the Billboard magazine charts (Christian music), with six reaching #1, received multiple Grammys and GMA Dove Awards. Grace Memorial youth attended a Hillsong Worship concert at the Smoothie King Center on November 6, 2019.

CD/Album: Let There Be Light
You were the Word at the Beginning, one with God the Lord most high.
Your hidden glory in Creation, now revealed in You our Christ.
What a beautiful name it is, what a beautiful name it is, the name of Jesus Christ my King.
What a beautiful name it is, nothing compares to this,
What a beautiful name it is, the name of Jesus.

You didn’t want heaven without earth, so Jesus You brought heaven down.
My sin was great, Your love was greater, what could separate us now?
What a wonderful name it is, what a wonderful name it is, the name of Jesus Christ my King.
What a wonderful name it is, nothing compares to this,
What a wonderful name it is, the name of Jesus.
What a wonderful name it is, the name of Jesus.

How sweet is Your name, Lord, how good You are,
Love to sing in the name of the Lord, love to sing for you all.
Death could not hold You, the veil tore before You, You silenced the boast of sin and grave.
The heavens are roaring, the praise of Your glory, for You are raised to life again.
You have no rival, You have no equal, now and forever God You reign.
Yours is the kingdom, Yours is the glory, Yours is the name above all names.
What a powerful name it is, what a powerful name it is, the name of Jesus Christ my King.
What a powerful name it is, nothing can stand against,
What a powerful name it is, the name of Jesus.

You have no rival, You have no equal, now and forever God You reign.
Yours is the kingdom, Yours is the glory, Yours is the name above all names.

What a powerful name it is, what a powerful name it is, the name of Jesus Christ my King.

Grace Memorial Parishioner
Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless his holy name. Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits. Who forgiveth all thine iniquities, who healeth all thy diseases. Who redeemeth thy life from destruction, who crowneth thee with loving-kindness and tender mercies. Who satisfieth thy mouth with good things, so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle’s. -Psalm 103, v. 1-5
Our featured female vocalist this week is Melodee DeVevo from Casting Crowns.  Melodee is primarily the violinist for CC, but this cut shows her gentle but beautiful voice.  She has been with Casting Crowns since the group’s inception and happens to be married to CC’s lead guitarist, Juan DeVevo.  Melodee also serves as one of several Youth Ministers at Eagle’s Landing First Baptist Church (McDonogh, GA)…a career shared by several other Casting Crown members.  Mark Hall, lead singer and songwriter for Casting Crowns, is the head Youth Minister at the same church.  It bares mentioning that CC makes only rare tour performances on Saturdays or Sundays, and they make it a point to return from any performance in time to serve each and every Sunday at their Georgia place of worship.
The Grace Memorial youth enjoyed Casting Crowns performing at the Lafayette Cajun Dome in April, 2017, and again at the Smoothie King Center in November, 2019.  (In case you are wondering, both concerts were held on a Thursday evening!).

Cut:             “Blessed Redeemer”
Artist:          Casting Crowns
CD/Album:    Until the Whole World Hears
Up Calvary's mountain one dreadful morn, Walked Christ my Saviour, weary and worn.
Facing for sinners, death on the cross that He might save them from endless loss.
Blessed Redeemer, precious Redeemer, seems now I see Him on Calvary's tree.
Wounded and bleeding, for sinners pleading, blind and unheeding, dying for me.

Father, forgive them, my Saviour prayed even while His lifeblood flowed fast away.
Praying for sinners while in such woe, no one but Jesus ever loved so.
Blessed Redeemer, precious Redeemer, seems now I see Him on Calvary's tree.
Wounded and bleeding, for sinners pleading, blind and unheeding, dying for me…dying for me.
Blessed Redeemer, precious Redeemer, seems now I see Him on Calvary's tree.
Wounded and bleeding, for sinners pleading, blind and unheeding, dying for me.

Oh, how I love Him, Saviour and Friend, how can my praises ever find end?
Through years unnumbered on heaven's shore, my songs shall praise Him forever more.
Blessed Redeemer, precious Redeemer, seems now I see Him on Calvary's tree.
Wounded and bleeding, for sinners pleading, blind and unheeding, dying for me.
Blessed Redeemer, precious Redeemer, seems now I see Him on Calvary's tree.
Wounded and bleeding, for sinners pleading, blind and unheeding, dying for me.

"We brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. And having food and raiment let us be therewith content. But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition. For the love of money is the root of all evil, which, while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows. But thou, O man of God, flee thee these things, and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness. Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, unto which thou art also called and hast professed a good profession before all witnesses. I command thee in the sight of God, who maketh all things alive, and before Christ Jesus, who before Pontius Pilate witnessed a good confession, That thou keep this commandment without spot, unrebukeable, until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ; Which in his times he shall show, who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords. ~Timothy 6:7-15
Continuing our spotlight on female Christian music vocalists, this cut has been shared before.  It features Brooke Ligertwood as lead singer.  Ms. Ligertwood has talent both in her vocals and her commitment to Christ.  “King of Kings” was recorded live on July 11, 2019, in the presence of over 6,000 worshipping youth and adults.  Ms. Ligertwood is now a solo artist, having left Hillsong Worship after a series of embarrassing activities surfaced involving the Hillsong Church ministry (none involving Brooke).
Grace Memorial youth attended a Hillsong Worship concert at the Smoothie King Center on November 6, 2019.

In the darkness we were waiting without hope, without light,
Till from heaven You came running, there was mercy in Your eyes.
To fulfil the law and prophets to a virgin came the Word,
From a throne of endless glory to a cradle in the dirt.

Praise the Father, praise the Son, praise the Spirit, three in one.
God of Glory, majesty, praise forever to the King of Kings.

To reveal the kingdom coming and to reconcile the lost,
To redeem the whole creation, You did not despise the Cross.
For even in Your suffering You saw to the other side,
Knowing this was our salvation, Jesus, for our sake You died.

Praise the Father, praise the Son, praise the Spirit, three in one.
God of Glory, majesty, praise forever to the King of Kings.

And in the morning that You rose, all of heaven held its breath.
Till that stone was moved for good, for the Lamb had conquered death.
And the dead rose from their tombs, and the angels stood in awe,
For the souls of all who’d come to the Father are restored.

And the church of Christ was born, then the spirit lit the flame,
Now this Gospel truth of God shall not kneel…shall not faint.
By His Blood and in His name, in His freedom I am free,
For the love of Jesus Christ, who has resurrected me.

Praise the Father, praise the Son, praise the Spirit, three in one.
God of Glory, majesty, praise forever to the King of Kings…praise forever to the King of Kings.
